The June 2008 Goal: Rediscover The Writer Self

We all have many self-facets to our personalities. Examples include your Work-Self, Homemaker-Self, Hobby-Self, and of course the TV Watching-Web Surfing-Vegetative-Self.

For me, I have spent the greater part of the last 2 years as the Corporate-Drone-Self, the Commuter-Self, the Basement-Renovation-Self, and the Creatively-Blocked Self who often mutates into the TV Watching-Web Surfing-Vegetative-Self. Along the way, I lost track of the Writer-Self. But the time has come for ol’ WS to make a comeback.

Yes, it’s true, the bulk of losing touch with the Writer-Self is my fault. I don’t set enough goals and I don’t adhere to self-proposed deadlines. Granted, with all of the projects I work on, I know I am more productive than most people out there, but not nearly as productive as I could be. I’ve got to start managing my life better. Otherwise, it is wasted.

The higher point to all of this is that I have 20,000 words worth of an unfinished 2nd novel that has been gathering digital cobwebs on my laptop. I started this novel in February 2006, lost track of it that April, picked it for a month in January 2007, and haven’t touched it since. Life is passing me by, and it is evident to me that this has sat for far too long.

Thus, my June 2008 goal is that I will write a blog entry every day in June, and at least two of each week’s entries have to be substantial. By tapping back into the Writer-Self after such a long layoff, the hope is that it will properly prepare me to return to the 2nd novel with as little rust as possible.

We all have many self-facets to our personalities. But which ones reign supreme is entirely up to you. See you tomorrow. Cheers.
