Someone Steal This Idea #1: The OTC Drug Multi-Pack

I’m constantly thinking of ideas and inventions that I would like to see developed and marketed. Many of them are in my various notebooks, in the hope they will one day be thrust into reality. Maybe.

But many other ideas are well beyond my scope of reality, since I am but a humble creative person with no money and very few connections. However, there could very well be a web surfer out there who has the money or the connections to make it happen. As I see it, if it benefits me to have, what do I care if someone else does it?

Thus, I have decided to start a category within my blog called “Someone Steal This Idea”. The rules of engagement if you use the idea are simple: 1. Give me a credit line, and 2. Send me a prototype.

Will this concept work? Probably not. Most people invent because they’re just trying to get rich, not because they are trying to be innovative. Thus, the likelihood such people would credit me for stealing my unpatented idea is slim to none. But hey, I’m a big fan of infamy, so it’s all good to know your infinitesimal life may have just pushed humanity a little closer to the future.

SST IDEA 0001: The Over-The-Counter Drug Multi-Pack
Logged by Mark Sahm on 6/04/2008

For most people who take relatively good care of themselves, the need for pharmaceuticals on a regular basis is low. So why is it that every time you have to go to the store to get (what ends up being) four to six pills for a stomach ache, headache, or chest cold, you have to buy a package of 20 to 50?

Most times for me, I find that the rest of the pills reach their expiration date before I ever use the rest of the package or bottle. Worse yet is that pharmaceuticals are an expensive item to go to waste.

Therefore, my idea is that an independent company offers an over-the-counter multi-pack of the most popular pharmaceuticals— a plastic-foil bubble pack with 6 ibuprofen, 6 pink bismuth tablets, 6 decongestants, 6 sore throat lozenges, and for our herbal kick, 6 tablets of a mix of echinacea, zinc, and Vitamin C.

In my opinion, it would be phenomenally efficient for all of the short-lived combination ailments that we all run across from time to time. So, someone steal this idea!
